Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was born and raised in Barcelona. Her diverse musical style has earned her the moniker of "atypical pop star". [9] She was captivated by Spanish folk music at the age of 13 years old. She was a musicologist at Catalonia College of Music and also performed at weddings. It reimagined flamenco, mixing it with pop music and hip-hop. The singles "Malamente", and "Pienso En Tu Mira" were hugely popular with the Spanish public , and were met with universal critical acclaim. Recognized as the winner of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and included in Rolling stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the climb of Rosalia into the international scene of music. Rosalia's 2019 albums "Con Altura" (13) and "Yo x Ti Tu x Mi" (12-13) were pioneers in urbano music, achieving worldwide popularity. The third studio album she released, Motomami (2022) gave reggaeton a new experimental sound, different from the traditional flamenco style. The album garnered worldwide attention for its songs "La Fama" and "Saoko" and became the top-rated album this year by Metacritic. Throughout her career, Rosalia has accumulated ten top-ten singles in her home country, which is a record for a local artist. Rosalia has also been awarded two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year nominations) Four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among other things. In 2019, Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award for "changing the current sound of mainstream music through her unique flamenco-influenced pop",[18and she became the first Latino-singing group in the history of music to be nominated for the Best New Artist award at the Grammys Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Rosalia is the youngest of four children of Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who runs a small metalworking business. Jose Manuel Vila, her father, was born in Cudillero. They split in 2019. Her 23-year-old older sister, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989) who collaborates alongside Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia showed an interest in performing arts at a young age, and particularly after discovering the discography of Camaron de la Isla. She began her music education in the Taller de Musics [es]. She took part in a 6-year program in the academy. She first began classes at the Raval school and later moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. Also, she was a solo singer, singing at weddings and in bars with musical music. For this she received "a barely more than 80 euros" or as a reward for dinner. Rosalia was at the mercy of many underground Spanish artists during that time , such as La Zowi and Yung Beef, Kaydy Case, Hinds, Maria Escarmiento, and Kaydy Cain.
